ABSTRACT

Our aim to evaluate the procedure and outcome of penile prosthesis surgery in the treatment of men with postpriapism erectile dysfunction. During the period between 1997 and 2004, a total of 17 patients with postpriapism erectile dysfunction underwent penile prosthesis implantation at our institution. Prosthesis implantation was done electively 6 to 18 months after priapism, when the patients presented with erectile dysfunction. Of the prosthesis implanted, 11 were malleable, 4 were 2-piece, and 2 were 3-piece prostheses [AMS, Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA]. All the 17 patients were successfully implanted with penile prosthesis, which led to urethral injury in 2 patients. There were no major postoperative complications. The median hospital stay was 5 days. The follow-up period ranged from 2 to 9 years [median, 6 years]. All the patients were satisfied with the prosthesis. Penile prosthesis implantation is the modality of treatment for patients with postpriapism erectile dysfunction at our institution. It has a high patient satisfaction rate. Although procedure-related complications are common due to corporeal fibrosis, they wre mostly minor ones and did not affect the outcome of the procedure

ABSTRACT

During the one year period ending November 1st, 1987, 241 patients had endoscopic upper tract stone removal by either percutaneous nephrolithotomy [PCNL] or by transurethnal ureteroscopy, or as the primary modality of therapy. Successful stone extraction by PCNL was achieved in 146 out of 150 patients [97.3%], and by ureteroscopy in 83 out of 91 patients [91.2%]. Some of the patients had 2 or more stones removed. 9 ureteroscopies were performed to push stones to the kidney for percutaneous removal. Complications have been very few as has been the morbidity. The mean hospital stay was 6 days with a quick return to work

ABSTRACT

We present the first case of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis reported in Bahrain, its presentation was unusual. A 13 years old Bahraini boy was admitted to our unit after he sustained a trauma to his right loin with fever, anaemia, weight-loss, and a high E.S.R. He underwent a full range of investigations, but the definite diagnosis could only be made at the operation

ABSTRACT

Between October 1st 1986 and February 1st 1987, a total of 45 patients had endoscopic stone removal with percutaneous nephrolithotomy [PCN] or transurethral ureteroscopy [TUU] as the primary modalities of therapy, 29 and 16 respectively. Two of these are excluded due to either inability to reach the stone or ureteric perforation. Successful stone extraction was achieved in 26 out of 29 patients [90%] by PCN, and 11 out of 14 patients [78%] by TUU. Complication rates were low as was the morbidity. Hospital stay was 6 days for most patients [range 5-14 days] with a prompt return to work. Endoscopic stone management is a far easier and cheaper method of treatment than open surgery
